My June 2024 TBR
I’ve been rather quiet here over the last few weeks as I think about how to move forward with this little newsletter. I’ve made a few choices which I’ll be writing about shortly, but for now, here’s my June TBR which is simultaneously the shortest and longest TBR of the year so far!
Four Eids and a Funeral by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé and Adiba Jaigirdar
I'm trying to request fewer review copies in 2024, but I do have a couple on my list for this month, beginning with this contemporary YA that has been co-written by two authors who I have previously enjoyed. It's a romance about two former best friends who must work together to save their Islamic Centre from demolition on the run-up to Eid, and I'm excited to see where it goes.
The Mercury in Me by Rachael Fernandes
My other review copy is another contemporary YA. The Mercury in Me by Rachael Fernandes is described as "an ode to romcoms, musicals and being British Indian" and follows seventeen-year-old aspiring doctor Maya who is trying to get through sixth form, a bunch of theatre kids, and a school bully with a cruel Instagram page. I'm not expecting this to be a top ten book of the year for me, but I'm hoping it will be a great summer read.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
After leaving my May Buzzword book until the very final minutes of the month, I'm determined to begin my June pick a little earlier! June's prompt is "Repeating Words" so I'm planning to pick up Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin which has been on my TBR for well over six months at this point. It’s a hugely hyped book, which makes me nervous, but the premise which follows two friends over 30 years in the video game industry is very much in my wheelhouse.
30 Graphic Novels in 30 Days
One big goal for June is to attempt to read 30 graphic novels in 30 days. My plan is to work through a number of series that have been sat gathering dust for some time in my library, including:
Two volumes of The Sad Ghost Club by Liz Meddings
All 20 volumes of Lumberjanes by N.D. Stevenson (yes, twenty…)
All 10 volumes of The Sandman by Neil Gaiman
9 volumes of Star Wars Adventures by Various
Star Wars: Fallen Order Dark Temple by Matthew Rosenberg
